Supporting NICUs and premature baby organisations

10/07/2019

WaterWipes have been specifically developed to be as mild and pure as cotton wool and water, and provide safe cleansing for the most delicate new-born skin and are so gentle they can also be used on premature babies.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the National Maternity Hospital Foundation

WaterWipes are very proud to be the only wipes permitted to be used on premature babies in the NICU at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street in Ireland.

The NICU at the National Maternity Hospital is a recognised center of excellence and tertiary referral center for acutely ill and pre-term babies from across the country. Babies are admitted to the neonatal unit for a number of reasons. Many are born preterm and require careful observation and monitoring. Others, such as full-term newborns, may have health problems; such as infection, jaundice, cardiac or surgical problems, requiring special treatment.

Every year, WaterWipes support the National Maternity Hospital Foundation to raise awareness for World Prematurity Day on November 17th as part of Premature Baby Awareness Month. For every 60 count pack sold in Ireland during the month of November, WaterWipes donate 10c to the National Maternity Hospital Foundation. These funds are used to support the families of babies in the National Maternity Hospital’s, NICU.

WaterWipes also provides funding for the development and printing of a handbook for parents who have a child being cared for on the neonatal care unit. They also provide funding for practical support for parents such as Leap Cards for travel, Breast Pumps for NICU mothers, a family room with pull-out beds and privacy screens.

Irish Neonatal Health Alliance (INHA)

The INHA is a network that represent the interests of preterm infants, ill infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) and their families. The network is made up of families affected by a preterm birth, multi-disciplinary healthcare experts, educators, researchers, political decision makers and industry partners who share the common goal of reducing the incidence of preterm birth in Ireland, supporting families with infants in the NICU and improving the long-term health of preterm infants by ensuring the optimum prevention, treatment, care and support.

WaterWipes partners with the INHA in several ways including the international promotion of World Prematurity Day each November, supporting HCP education via the annual scientific study day and Feeding Workshops in 2019, providing corporate sponsorship for the INHA’s NICU Milestone cards, supplying samples for the World Prematurity Day NICU hampers and providing logistical support for the Angel Gowns project.

Project Sweet Peas

Project Sweet Peas is a non-profit organization based on the east coast in the USA. It is co-ordinated by volunteers, who through personal experience have become passionate about providing support to families of premature or sick infants and to those who have been affected by pregnancy and infant loss.

Project Sweet Peas recognises the importance of parental involvement in caregiving and decision-making in the NICU, and seeks to promote family-centered care competencies in hospitals nationwide. Care packages, hospital events, peer-to-peer support, financial aid, educational materials, and other Project Sweet Peas services, support the cultural, spiritual, emotional, and financial needs of families as they endure life in the NICU.

WaterWipes support Project Sweet Peas with funding in support of NICU awareness month, and also provides product samples that are included in care packs provided to parents.

Miracle Babies (USA)

Miracle Babies is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to unite families with their sick newborns through financial assistance and supportive services and to reduce pregnancy complications through prevention, education and research.

The support and financial assistance Miracle Babies provide to families in the NICU helps them spend more time with their babies and provide breastmilk-practices that are strongly linked to improved health outcomes, shorter hospital stays and improved parent-child bonding.

WaterWipes support Miracle Babies with funding to support the ‘Miracle Hours’ initiative where parents can escape the isolation of the NICU, participate in a craft project, and enjoy a catered meal. They also provide product samples and sponsor the care bags which are provided to families.

Miracle Babies Foundation (Australia)

Miracle Babies Foundation is Australia’s leading organisation supporting premature and sick newborns, their families and the hospitals that care for them.

Every year in Australia around 48,000 newborn babies require the help of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or Special Care Nursery. 27,000 of these babies are born premature and up to 1,000 babies lose their fight for life.

Miracle Babies Foundation is passionate about developing and providing vital programs and resources to support and enhance a family’s experience from a threatened pregnancy, hospital journey with a premature or sick newborn, the transition to home and beyond.

WaterWipes is proud to support the Miracle Babies Foundation ‘Nurture Program’ and family resources through funding and supplying wipes to families in hospital.

The Miracle Babies NICU Survival Pack is one of the most important family resources provided for a baby in the NICU. These packs include an in-depth information guide (Miracle Babies Nurture Guide) to give parents a better understanding of Neonatal Care, along with helpful items to help them cope in the NICU – including WaterWipes, which have been carefully designed to be gentle on babies’ sensitive skin.
